Meet Munchie

Just trying to show the general progress from my recently finished module on character development/image building

I’m sure you’ve all heard of mythical creatures with names like Bigfoot, The Yeti or The Loch Ness monster, but what about Munchie? To the small children of Bogmere and Quagmin, Munchie, was a creature they feared, for it lurked in the marshlands surrounding their homes. It was said to have a mouth, which would swallow a child whole and the breath that had a stench that smelled like 1000 years of decay. Village folk told stories over generations elaborating upon Munchie’s legendary existence until many feared its name. The Village elders thought scaring the children away from the treacherous marshland would keep them safe from getting into danger. And it worked; no children ever dared enter Munchie’s bog, for they knew that if they did they would not return.

However, despite the beliefs of most people, Munchie was no myth and even his legendary portrayal was a poignant and false representation of Munchie. Loneliness is probably the hardest part for an existing mythical creature. Misunderstood Munchie spent most of his days trudging through his swamp, admiring the lilies and diverse ecosystem he lived in. Munchie would cool off by swimming during the day, as it was often too hot to do anything else. He would bob around with only his eyes above the water much like an alligator; ironically for Munchie, this was one of the main reasons why Munchie wasn’t spotted that often. Now the night was when Munchie really connected with the swamp, he would gaze endlessly at the moonlight. Munchie always felt that the moon was his closest friend, for it was a lot like him; they were both alone most of the time and didn’t often show themselves fully. As the moonlight shimmered through the tree branches, the swamp would come alive. Teemed with dragonflies and mosquitoes, they all would glitter as they hurried through the moonlight. Such a sight would never go unnoticed by Munchie; he would always appreciate his surroundings and the beauty of nature. However nothing ever seemed to be grateful for his devotion; the pond skaters would scurry away from Munchie’s warm gaze and the frogs would hop away from his amphibious-like appearance. The truth was, Munchie scared most things, through his appearance as well as his fearful and inaccurate description.

Understandably Munchies solitude upset him, but despite this he would never take it personally. One day, Munchie was lucky enough to have a visitor, it wasn’t often that a human came to the swamp but whenever it happened Munchie would always get excited and strategise ways to befriend the newcomer. Munchie’s last welcoming didn’t go to plan, children came and considering everyone loves surprises, Munchie thought that it would be a good idea to spring up out of the murky water with rare and tasty swamp algae! Munchie never understood how they managed to resist the yummy delicacy. However this time would be different, Munchie was adamant that this new plan would work. As the person approached, Munchie immersed himself underwater. The man edged closer to Munchie’s whereabouts, not knowing what was about to happen. Jittery and anxious, the man assessed his surroundings. Assured by not finding any oddities he returned to plodding forward, by this point Munchie had emerged from the bog. Giving a friendly grin he extended his arms to welcome a hug. Therefore, you can understand Munchie’s perplexity when he saw the visitor scream in horror before running away as if his life depended on it. Munchie’s face turned sullen, as his feeling of excitement subsided. Munchie was alone again but no one else could have known.

Final

The final image didn't turn out as i wanted, going to make some tweaks to it in composition and colour it digitally with a wacom tablet, should spruce it up.
